Romney: I Can Has Grits?

Romney eats grits

After spending last week reminiscing about Davy Crockett in Tennessee, he’s now a full fledged Y’all Come Back Now, Y’Hear southern boy … who likes them grits. Apparently this idiot, in his desperation to become the Republican nominee for President believes that all you gotta do is to superficially pretend to be “like” his audience, or what he believes his audience is like to win over that state. No doubt that if he were campaigning in a horse loving state, he’d be wading kneed deep in horse shit.

Campaigning in Mississippi on Wednesday, Mitt Romney attempted to win over local voters by invoking a beloved regional delicacy.

The former Massachusetts governor said during a speech in Pascagoula, Miss., that he is turning into an “unofficial Southerner.” He also joked, “I’m learning to say ‘y’all’ and I like grits. Strange things are happening to me.” Source

On cue, Romney kept the Southern shtick going Thursday morning at a town hall-style rally in Jackson, Miss. Standing next to Gov. Phil Bryant, a recent endorser who’s from one of the most conservative counties in the state, Romney opened with a local salute.

“The governor said I had to say it right: Mornin’ y’all. Good to be with you,” Romney bantered. “I got started right this morning with a biscuit and some cheesy grits. I’ll tell you! Delicious.”

A little bit later, Romney may have hurt his chances of capturing the PETA vote when he halted his reply to an audience member’s question about health care to kill a bug. “Oh, look at that. Look at that little guy,” Romney said before the stomp. “Got him. It wasn’t really a cockroach, I promise. We are in the agriculture building after all.”

A closer inspection of the dead bug after the remarks, plus an interview with a witness, revealed Romney likely killed a cockroach. Source

Wow. Note to Mitt: As a Southerner, I’ve never known us to find caricature endearing. But welcome to the Deep South anyway, Mitt. I wonder if you’ve been introduced to one of my favorite Southern sayings: the backhanded “Bless your heart.” Source
