Donald Trump Likes Blacks … or Maybe Not

Donald Trump bigot

With all of his talk about entering the 2012 Presidential race, Donald Trump is in the spotlight a lot these days. He went on and on and on about President Obama’s long form birth certificate, until that was produced. Then he started slinging unfounded rumors about the President’s grades in college, asking how Obama could have gotten into Harvard with bad grades?

According to Trump, Obama’s academic performance was poor at Columbia, but he somehow still managed to wheedle his way into Harvard Law School, hinting that this must be due to affirmative action pressure. Trump of course, denies his ridiculous straw man distraction about grades being racially motivated. He says, “I have a great relationship with the blacks. I’ve always had a great relationship with the blacks.”

Does Donald Trump Have “A Great Relatonship With Blacks”?

I don’t think so. In fact, there’s plenty of evidence that Donald Trump is, in fact, a bigot.

From Donald Trump’s Racial Discrimination Problem in Salon.com:

Trump‘s New York real estate company was sued by the federal government for discriminating against potential black renters. After a lengthy legal battle, it ultimately agreed to wide-ranging steps to offer rentals to nonwhites.

A few months after the government filed the suit, Trump gave a combative press conference at the New York Hilton in which he went after the Justice Department for being too friendly to welfare recipients. He “accused the Justice Department of singling out his corporation because it was a large one and because the Government was trying to force it to rent to welfare recipients,” the Times reported. Trump added that if welfare recipients were allowed into his apartments in certain middle-class outer-borough neighborhoods, there would be a “massive fleeing from the city of not only our tenants, but communities as a whole.”

In 1975, Trump ultimately came to a far-reaching agreement with the DOJ in which he and the company did not admit guilt but agreed not to discriminate and to take steps to open its housing stock to more nonwhites. The company agreed to submit a weekly list of vacancies to the Urban League, which would produce qualified applicants for a portion of all vacancies.

But it didn’t end there. In 1978, the government filed a motion for supplemental relief, charging that the Trump company had not complied with the 1975 agreement. The government alleged that the Trump company “discriminated against blacks in the terms and conditions of rental, made statements indicating discrimination based on race and told blacks that apartments were not available for inspection and rental when, in fact, they are,” the Times reported. Trump again denied the charges.

It’s not clear what happened with the government’s request for further action (and compensation for victims), but in 1983, a fair-housing activist cited statistics that two Trump Village developments had white majorities of at least 95 percent.

Now back to Trump‘s malicious innuendos about President Obama’s academic performance. One could easily say that putting the spotlight on the President’s grades might take the spotlight off of his history of failed business decisions that he’s made. Personally, I’d like to see his transcripts for Fordham and the Wharton School of Business. But like his tax returns that he promised to release if the President released his birth certificate, he hasn’t offered to show them to anyone. Hmmmm … I wonder why.

In even more buffoonery, Thursday night Trump made a profanity laced speech at a Las Vegas casino, assuring his supporters that he’ll make his decision on running for President soon. He covered mostly foreign affairs, and with his history, one can only guess what kind of affairs he’s talking about. But he did say, “Our leaders are stupid, they are stupid people,” he said. “It’s just very, very sad.”

He also thinks Robert DeNiro is ‘Not The Brightest Bulb On The Planet’. Again, he probably thinks that casting aspersions on other people’s intelligence will take the focus off of his lack of intelligence and his really bad double comb-over. Let’s just say it plainly and get this out on the table: Donald Trump is stupid, stupid stupid, and he’s a bigot. If Trump is an example of the GOP “thought leaders”, the Republican party is in big trouble.
